Dr. Shehadeh Hussein Appointed as Deputy Governor of the Palestine Monetary Authority

Dr. Shehadeh Deeb Hussein was appointed yesterday as Deputy Governor of the Palestine Monetary Authority. The decision comes as a result of the efforts exerted by the Governor, Dr. Jihad AL-Wazir, to recruit talented and experienced professionals to work in the Monetary Authority, and to promote the independence of the Monetary Authority.

It should be noted that Dr. Hussein, holds a master and PhD degrees in economics from the University of Houston, Texas, USA, as well as a master degree and a BA in economics from the American University of Beirut.

He worked as a senior economist in the International Monetary Fund including in the Middle East and Central Asia Department since the year 1991. While in the latter department, he participated in several international missions to the countries of the region, including Palestine and the Monetary Authority in particular. He also worked as a resident representative of the IMF in Kosovo for two years during the period 2002-2004. He also served in the United Arab Emirates Institute for Banking Studies in the United Arab Emirates, as well as a lecturer at the University of Ajman during the period 1989-1991. Also, he worked as the Head of the statistics section in the Research Department of the Central Bank of Kuwait during the period 1973 - 1984.

Dr. Hussein has several research papers, studies and publications in the economic sphere, including co-authoring Macroeconomic Policies for the Arab Republic of Egypt in 1997, and Monetary Union of the GCC, 2003.

In this context, the Governor expresses his warmest congratulations to the staff of the Monetary Authority and Dr. Hussein and wished him success in his new duties.
