The PMA Governor Meets with a World Bank Delegation to Discuss Means of Mutual Cooperation
His Excellency the PMA Governor, Mr. Yahya Shunnar, met today at the PMA headquarters with a delegation from the World Bank, which included the Country Director and Resident Representative for the West Bank and Gaza, Mr. Stefan Emblad, along with his accompanying delegation. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Governor Mr. Mohammed Manasrah, Director of the Financial Follow-up Unit Dr. Firas Murar, and several department directors.
During the meeting, His Excellency the Governor briefed the delegation on the PMA’s efforts to promote financial stability, develop the electronic payments ecosystem, and provide financing for projects across various sectors, contributing to national economic support. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance the anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing framework by advancing legislation and updating banking regulations to reinforce financial integrity.
The Governor also reviewed the ongoing efforts to restore banking services in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the continuity of the banking sector and providing financial services to citizens and businesses. He highlighted that these efforts contribute to alleviating economic challenges and achieving financial stability in the region.
For its part, the World Bank delegation commended the vital role played by the PMA in maintaining the stability of the Palestinian banking sector. They praised its commitment to applying international standards in financial supervision, promoting integrity and transparency, and developing banking policies that enhance the sector’s resilience and ensure its sustainability amid economic challenges.
The delegation reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to continuing its technical and advisory support for the PMA. This support aims to strengthen its capabilities and enable it to efficiently carry out its regulatory and supervisory role, contributing to financial stability and economic development in Palestine.
