The PMA Governor Meets with an International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission

 His Excellency the PMA Governor, Mr. Yahya Shunnar, met today with an International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission during a virtual meeting. The meeting included the Head of the IMF Mission, Ms. Kerstin Gerling, the IMF Resident Representative, Mr. Tobias Roy, the mission’s technical team, Deputy Governor Mr. Mohammed Manasrah and several department directors.

The Governor briefed the mission on the latest developments in the Palestinian banking sector, the challenges it faces, and ongoing efforts to restore banking operations in the Gaza Strip. He also outlined the PMA’s future plans to develop and enhance the banking sector stability, contributing to national economic support and sustainable development.

The two parties discussed enhancing cooperation between PMA and the IMF, particularly in the area of technical assistance, aimed at developing the efficiency of the Palestinian banking system and enhancing its capacity to address future challenges.

For her part, the Head of the IMF Mission, Ms. Kerstin Gerling, commended the ongoing efforts of the PMA in advancing the Palestinian banking sector. She acknowledged the progress made in enhancing the stability of the banking system despite the existing challenges. She reaffirmed the IMF’s full commitment to supporting the PMA by providing the necessary technical assistance and guidance to implement its future plans, aimed at further improving the efficiency and development of the banking sector in line with international standards.
