The Governor of Palestine Monetary Authority Meets the Federation of Palestinian Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture Delegates, Promises to Review their Demand while Understanding Current Circumstance

Ramallah and Al-Bireh Governorate, July 19, 2020

His Excellency the Governor of Palestine Monetary Authority Mr. Azzam Shawwa met today with the President of the Federation of Palestinian Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Ramallah and al-Bireh Governorate Mr. Abdul Ghani Atari, and an accompanying delegate of representatives of the Governorate and the Federation of Palestinian Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture. The rest of the Federation members were unable to attend due to the lockdown in the governorates.

The meeting discussed ways to address the economic situation and its implications of the current health crisis resulting from the coronavirus outbreak.

The demands of all sectors of the Federation were presented to Mr. Shawwa by the delegates, including:

  •  Clearance is to be closed if the full lockdown is imposed. When clearance is operating again, clearing is scheduled according to due dates.
  • Review of the returned cheque commission of 60 shekels and the settlement commission of 50 NIS.
  • Review the delay of premiums for a new period; to be optional.
  • Facilitate lending through a sustainability program.

Mr. Shawwa said all demands would be reviewed by Palestine Monetary Authority, with an open mind and understanding of the current circumstances. Mr. Shawwa stated that Palestine Monetary Authority had been proactive and hands-on in the instructions and procedures issued since the beginning of the current health crisis for banks and lending institutions, which contributed to mitigating the repercussions of the crisis on the various economic sectors
