The PMA has launched a media campaign to introduce the National Switch 194 today. The campaign, titled “We have made it easy for you; your account is close at hand”, features advertisements in newspapers, radio and television, as well as print-outs that describe the method of operation of the system. 

H.E. Mr. Azzam Shawwa, Governor of the PMA, said: “The launch of the National Switch system is considered a fundamental cornerstone in the development of retail payment systems in Palestine and is consistent with PMA strategic goals and efforts intended to direct the Palestinian society to move towards using up-to-date electronic payment methods at the expense of cash, checks and paper-based payment methods. This will reduce the risks and disadvantages associated with the use of cash and other conventional payment instruments on one hand, and, on the other, will ensure staying abreast with the latest advances in the area of electronic communication channels worldwide.” 

Mr. Shawwa further explained that the National Switch system 194 joins all ATMs in a single unified interbank ATM consortium, giving a card-holder access to ATMs of banks other than the card-issuing bank at low charges. This facilitates access to much-needed banking services, particularly in view of the constraints on movement under the current political situation. The project will positively impact all segments of the society and promote financial inclusion in Palestine.
