PMA Holds Meeting with Coordinators of Directorates of Education and Representatives of UNRWA Schools in Preparation for the Launch of Activities of Child and Youth Banking Week 2016

At its headquarters in Ramallah, PMA held a meeting with the coordinators of education directorates and the representatives of the education program at UNRWA, in preparation, for the fifth consecutive year, for the launch of the activities of the Child and Youth Banking Week 2016.

The Banking Week will take place on March 13th, under the auspices of the Governor of the PMA H.E. Azzam Shawwa and in collaboration with the Association of Banks in Palestine (ABP), the Ministry of Education (MoE) and UNRWA schools. The Banking Week activities are part of the PMA plan aimed at promoting banking and financial education and awareness of all segments of the Palestinian society, in particular children and youth.

During the meeting, discussions focused on the mechanism of coordination between bank employees and coordinators of directorates in all governorates to organize school visits, particularly eighth graders, to the banks. The PMA prepared a financial awareness program using awareness-raising video clips that rely on illustrations on saving money, budgets, and e-banking services to simplify and present concepts in an interesting manner to the students during awareness-raising lectures at schools. The video material will also be uploaded onto social media sites covering the Banking Week and websites of the PMA website, the banks and the MoE in order to reach the largest possible of segment of the target group, i.e. the students.

As part of Banking Week activities, bank branches will dedicate a single working hour during each of the Banking Week days to receive students and their parents and introduce them to banking services in order to harness their banking and financial awareness and literacy. Moreover, bank representatives will carry out visits to schools in the various governorates to deliver financial and banking awareness-raising presentations to the students, take their questions and provide them with pamphlets on banking concepts, operation methods and how to deal with banks.

It is worth mentioning that the PMA received in 2013 the award of the best financial and banking awareness program in the Middle East and North Africa region aimed at reinforcing financial awareness among children and youth. The award was granted by Child and Youth Finance International in Amsterdam, in appreciation for PMA achievements with respect to financial and banking awareness and the successful organization of the Child and Youth Banking Week.
