Governor of PMA Visits Chamber of Commerce and Industry -Ramallah and Al Bireh Governorate and Meets with Money Changers

 

H.E. Governor of PMA Azzam Shawwa visited today the Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Ramallah and Al Bireh Governorate, where he was welcomed by Chairman of the Federation of Palestinian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Ramallah and Al Bireh Governorate, Mr. Khalil Rizk, members of the Board of Directors and a host of businessmen and money changers in the governorate.

Mr. Rizk commended the PMA for its important role in supervising and developing the banking sector, thus contributing to Palestinian financial stability and promoting integration with regional and global economies. He spoke highly about the attention dedicated by the PMA to all Palestinian governorates. He added that PMA’s interest in the economic situation and its efforts to stimulate the economy through the support extended by the banks to investment project will generate new job opportunities. 

H.E. Governor Shawwa praised the efforts made by the Chamber of Commerce – Ramallah and Al Bireh Governorate and its many contributions in building institutions and bolstering economic activity; bringing us closer to the independent State of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital. He noted that such activity strengthens the steadfastness of citizens and the segment of merchant and industrialists in the face of economic challenges and hardship brought about by occupation.

H.E. Governor Shawwa reviewed the endeavors of the PMA and the banking system to achieve monetary stability, contribute to maintaining financial stability and promote and develop the national economy, in spite of the harsh political and economic conditions. He pointed out that the PMA had developed several advanced banking systems and that work is underway to launch other systems over the course of the year.

Governor Shawwa was informed about the needs of the companies operating in the money exchange business in the Governorate of Ramallah and Al-Bireh, which is the governorate with the highest number of money exchange companies in the West Bank. He praised the role of money changers in supporting the national economy. Governor Shawwa listened to their grievances and proposals for mutual cooperation with the PMA and, in turn, informed them of his vision to regulate the money exchange sector.

Moreover, H.E. Governor Shawwa informed the money changers that President Abu MAzen, May God keep him from harm, has endorsed the amendments to the Money-Changing Law, which currently awaits publication in the Official Gazette. He added that the Law is in line with best and most up-to-date developments in the field of money exchange business.
