Governor of Palestine Monetary Authority Meets the Minister of Labor

Ramallah and Al-Bireh Governorate - His Excellency the Governor of Palestine Monetary Authority, Mr. Azzam Shawwa, met in his office in Ramallah with His Excellency the Minister of Labor, Mr. Nasri Abu Jaish, and discussed the economic situation in the light of the current crisis caused by the outbreak of the Coronavirus.
During the meeting, the latest developments and measures taken by Palestine Monetary Authority and the Ministry of Labor to mitigate the impact of the crisis on affected groups and families, were briefed.
His Excellency the Governor explained that Palestine Monetary Authority encouraged banks to direct social responsibility budgets to support the efforts of the government and the health sector to deal with the coronavirus pandemic and reduce its spread in Palestine, and to provide resources to support the social safety net for the segments affected by the pandemic, especially through the Wakfet Izz Fund, which was formed with wise guidance from the esteemed government to face the repercussions of the current health crisis.
For his part, the Minister of Labor confirmed that the coronavirus crisis caused significant damage to Palestinian workers, pointing out that the Ministry of Labor launched a few days ago a program to support workers affected by the coronavirus in the local market, and that the first intervention included 35 thousand workers who had lost their jobs.
