Governor of Palestine Monetary Authority Meets British Consul General

Ramallah – May 15, 2019 - His Excellency Mr. Azzam Shawwa, the Governor of Palestine Monetary Authority, met today in Ramallah with the British Consul General in Jerusalem Mr. Philip Hall and accompanying delegates of Mr. Hall. The Financial Follow-Up Unit Director Mr. Wael Lafi attended the meeting between Mr. Shawwa and Mr. Hall.

Mr. Shawwa briefed Mr. Hall during the meeting about the latest achievements of Palestine Monetary Authority in legislative and regulatory and supervisory areas to boost stability and independence of the Palestinian banking system and the soundness of its operations, as well as the efforts to be abreast of international banking developments. 

Mr. Shawwa also briefed the British Consul General about the itinerary of his London trip and the purpose of the trip including meeting with Charles Bowman, Lord Mayor of the City of London, and a visit to the Bank of England. Mr. Shawwa’s trip also involves being briefed about the e-finance development in the United Kingdom and meeting with businesspeople as well as the meetings to be held between Mr. Lafi and his British counterpart.  

Mr. Shawwa affirmed the depth of the bilateral relations between Palestine and the United Kingdom. Mr. Shawwa praised the support the United Kingdom provided in different areas, especially support for the Palestinian economy. Mr. Shawwa said it was necessary to enhance the bilateral relations between both sides and exchange of banking expertise within the framework of developing Palestinian banking relations with different countries.

Mr. Hall praised the development and stability of the Palestinian banking sector and the efforts of Palestine Monetary Authority in achieving such stability and development. Mr. Hall said his country was ready to further joint cooperation in different areas including finance and banking.
