PMA Governor: The Banking Sector Will Resume Operations in the Gaza Strip Commencing on Tuesday Morning
The PMA Governor, Mr. Yahya Shunnar, announced the resumption of banking services and operations in the Gaza Strip commencing on Tuesday morning, January 28, 2025. The reopening of bank branches will take place in phases, with the first phase involving the operation of three to four branches in the Deir al-Balah and Nuseirat regions.
The Governor emphasized that the PMA is working with banks to increase the number of branches to provide services to the public, covering additional regions in both the northern and southern areas of the Gaza Strip. However, the expansion of services depends on the availability of communication lines, electricity, staff, and security. Efforts are underway to ensure the success of the operation and service provision.
In this context, and until the introduction of banknotes into the Strip, Governor Shunnar encouraged the public to make use of the electronic payment services provided by the PMA, particularly the iBURAQ instant transfer system. These services are characterized by being free, fast, easy, and secure. He pointed out that the iBURAQ system can be accessed through the banking applications of financial institutions and mobile wallet applications of payment service providers.
