Palestine Monetary Authority Organizes Training Session for Economic Journalists in Gaza

Gaza, October 14, 2021- Palestine Monetary Authority organized today a training session for journalists working in the field of economic journalism, titled “Reading Data Posted on Palestine Monetary Authority’s Website - Banking and Financial Indicators” at its headquarters in Gaza in cooperation with the Palestinian Journalists' Syndicate.

The session was opened in the presence of a delegation from the Palestinian Journalists' Syndicate. Participating journalists were welcomed by the Public Relations Department on behalf of the Governor of Palestine Monetary Authority Dr. Feras Milhem. The Palestinian Journalists' Syndicate’s representatives stressed the importance of holding these specialized sessions for developing the capabilities of media staff.

Dr. Seif Eddin Odeh, Head of Monetary Policy and Financial Markets at the Department of Research and Monetary Policy, lectured in the session, starting by providing a general introduction of Palestine Monetary Authority, its functions and the sectors it oversees. Dr. Odeh then addressed how data and figures could be extracted from Palestine Monetary Authority's website and how to link those data to figures. Dr. Odeh also presented the assets, liabilities, deposits, facilities, government finances, statistics, and publications of Palestine Monetary Authority.

The session included discussions and observations from participating journalists and exercises on writing a story on the topics at hand.

Certificates were handed over to participating journalists at the end of the session in the presence of the delegation of the Palestinian Journalists' Syndicate. Participating journalists were also thanked for their interest and keenness to gain more knowledge, especially in the economic field, which reflected positively on their role in educating the public and thereby promoting stability and financial inclusion.

Palestine Monetary Authority had organized a similar training session two weeks ago in Ramallah and had previously organized workshops and specialized courses for journalists based on a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Palestinian Journalists' Syndicate for the Development of Economic Media.
