H.E. Governor of PMA Visits Governorate of Hebron, Hebron Municipality, Chamber of Commerce and Businessmen Forum and Meets Money Changers
H.E. Governor of the PMA, Mr. Azzam Shawwa, paid an extended visit to the city of Hebron. The visit commenced with a meeting with H. E. Governor of Hebron Governorate, Mr. Kamel Hmaid. The Governors discussed various economic issues with regard to the current Palestinian situation and the different needs of the governorate, in particular the Old City of Hebron and the areas adjacent to Israeli settlements. Governor Shawwa affirmed PMA’s keenness to employ the best available systems to maintain financial and economic stability and keep abreast of the most recent international advances. The Governor of Hebron pointed out the urgent needs of the Governorate and proposed ways to improve cooperation with the PMA, especially concerning the support of the banking sector for the fund to revive the Old City of Hebron.
H.E. Governor Shawwa then visited the Municipality of Hebron, where he met with Mayor Daoud Al-Za’tari, Deputy Mayor Joudy Abu Sneineh and a number of members of the municipal council. Discussions focused on ways to improve economic life in Hebron, which has suffered the adverse effects of Israeli practices and measures, especially in the wake of the recent events. Mr. Al-Za’tari reviewed the services offered by the municipality to citizens through the electronic municipality portal. He called upon the PMA to concentrate its social endeavors on supporting Palestinian universities and entrepreneurial projects. H.E. Mr. Shawwa assured attendees that Hebron receives ample interest from the PMA, as the city suffers the constant violations of the Israeli occupation. H.E. Governor Shawwa noted that his visit was intended to heighten awareness of the general situation in Hebron, become familiar with the needs and better consider the problems of its citizens.
H.E. Governor Shawwa also met with Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Eng. Mohammad Ghazi Al-Hirbawi, and a number of members of its board. The meeting focused on the specific obstacles facing the tradesmen in Hebron due to the Israeli-imposed measures that constitute collective punishments against citizens of Hebron.
At the Chamber of Commerce, the PMA Governor also held a meeting with a number of money changers. The problems and impediments facing the money changing business were discussed during the meeting, as well as the prospects for future collaboration with the PMA. Mr. Shawwa commended the role of money changing firms in supporting the national economy.
As part of the tour, H.E. Mr. Shawwa also visited the Forum of Businessmen in Hebron, where he was received by Chairman of the Board, Mr. Nafez Al-Hirbawi and members of the board. The meeting focused on various issues that link the private sector with the banking sector. It was agreed to collaborate in the area of financial awareness-raising campaigns for businessmen, especially with respect to the bounced checks system and the credit registry system.
