H.E. Governor of PMA Visits Governorate of Jenin, Arab American University – Jenin, the Chamber of Commerce and Meets Money Changers
H.E. Governor of the PMA, Mr. Azzam Shawwa, conducted an extended visit to the city of Jenin. The visit commenced with a meeting with Governor of Jenin, Major General Ibrahim Ramadan. The Governors discussed numerous issues relating to the current state of Palestinian affairs and the means to alleviate the suffering of citizens. Governor Shawwa affirmed PMA’s policy to employ the best available systems to maintain financial and economic stability and keep abreast of the most recent international financial advances. On his part, Major General Ramadan, pointed out that the need still existed in the Governorate of Jenin for implementing a process of comprehensive development, despite the measures and endeavors that had been made by the Governorate, in partnership with institutions involved, to outline and plan needs at all levels.
H.E. Governor Shawwa then visited the Municipality of Jenin, where he met with Deputy Mayor Mr. Salim Al-Saadi and members of the municipal council. During the meeting, views were exchanged on a number of Palestinian affairs and the most prominent obstacles facing the citizens.
H.E. Governor Shawwa met at the Chamber of Commerce with Chairman of the Board, Mr. Hisham Massad, members of the Board, the Chamber’s General Manager as well as bank and money-exchange firm managers representing the banking sector in Jenin. During the meeting, participants discussed means of collaboration, solutions to banking sector problems and PMA strategies. They also examined prospects of mutual cooperation with the various banking sector members.
Mr. Massad thanked the Governor of the PMA for his tireless efforts to strengthen relations of the banking system with the remaining economic sectors. He praised highly the vitality of the banking sector and its essential role in supporting the economy and development in the Governorate. He also alluded to a range of problems facing the money changing sector in Jenin.
In turn, H.E. Governor Shawwa praised highly the vital role assumed by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Palestine and expressed his happiness upon meeting banking sector institutions in the Governorate of Jenin. The Governor emphasized the significance of this critical sector. He highlighted the need to give it adequate attention and to develop and improve its regulating systems and make appropriate arrangements to resolve any impediments or obstacle it faces. He asserted the fact that maintaining financial stability was a PMA top priority, which it had succeeded to realize in spite of difficult economic and political conditions. He also expressed his readiness to discuss, follow up and seek to resolve any issues that encounter banking institutions in the Governorate of Jenin, in line with procedures and instructions observed by the PMA. He pointed to the importance of continuous collaboration between the PMA and the money changing sector as well as all economic sectors in general and called for the establishment of a subcommittee of representatives of the banking sector, the Chamber of Commerce and the PMA to discuss in detail the problems that had been raised during the meeting in order to find suitable solutions as quickly as possible.
H.E. Governor Shawwa visited the Arab American University – Jenin (AAUJ), where he met with President Dr. Ali Zedan Abu Zuhri. The Governor thanked AAUJ for establishing good relations and fostering continued communication with the PMA, in particular in the area of promoting banking and financial awareness.
