The PMA: Repeated Attacks on Bank Branches in the Gaza Strip Exacerbate Citizens' Suffering
The Palestine Monetary Authority (PMA) affirms that the repeated attacks on bank branches and ATMs in the Gaza Strip are threatening the continued operation of these branches and their ability to disburse employees' salaries and process financial transfers under the current exceptional circumstances. This situation exacerbates the suffering of our people in the Gaza Strip.
The PMA pointed out that it is making continuous efforts to ensure the banking system's continued operation in Gaza and to provide financial services to citizens. However, outlaw parties are destroying bank branches and ATMs, creating obstacles for the public to access cash. The PMA emphasized that this malicious behavior causes severe harm to both the displaced and the residents of Gaza Strip.
The PMA called on representatives of the chambers of commerce, community leaders, and societal and tribal authorities in Gaza to intervene and work to protect bank branches and their assets. It noted that despite the increasing challenges and risks, including the lack of electrical power and communication outages in most parts of the Gaza Strip, the PMA is steadfast in its efforts to ensure the banking system's continuity, provide liquidity, and facilitate the operations of relief organizations.
