2017 Palestine International Banking Conference On Woman Banking Starts on November 20, 2017

The Preparatory Committee for the 2017 Palestine International Banking Conference on Woman Banking announced that the conference preparations have been completed. The Conference will convene on November 20, 2017 under the auspices of H.E. Prime Minister Dr. Rami Al Hamdallah, and H.E. Governor of the Palestine Monetary Authority Azzam Shawwa at the Oasis Hotel in Jericho. The Conference is organized by the PMA in cooperation with the Association of Banks in Palestine (ABP), the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the European Palestinian Credit Guarantee Fund.
The conference aims at highlighting the importance of women’s participation in the banking sector, given the considerable impact of this participation on economic growth and sustainable development, as evident in relevant indicators, as well as its role in improving living standards, achieving equality and social welfare across the various segments of society.
The Conference will also focus on defining the requirements to build the financial capabilities necessary to promote woman banking and underlining the significance of creating and upgrading banking products and services that meet women’s needs. Finally, the Conference intends to articulate the vision statement for woman banking.
Governor Shawwa said he hoped the Conference will present an ample opportunity to develop policies and take appropriate measures that support women’s participation in the economy and pave the way towards in remarkable progress in the area of women banking.
Governor Shawwa noted that the choice of the conference theme of “women banking” was geared towards achieving the goals of the national strategy for financial inclusion; the strategy to which both the PMA and the financial sector have committed.
The head of the Preparatory Committee, Mr. Ali Faroun, pointed out that the Conference will feature presentations by local and international prominent speakers. Participants will include a delegation representing women organizations in the Gaza Strip. Moreover, the Conference will showcase the experience of a number of Palestinian women entrepreneurs.
