The Governor of Palestine Monetary Authority Visits Bethlehem and Signs MoU with Bethlehem University

His Excellency Mr. Azzam Shawwa, the Governor of Palestine Monetary Authority, visited Bethlehem heading a delegate from PMA and met with Bethlehem Governor Major General Jibrin Al Bakri and the team working at his office. PMA’s Committee for Coordinating with Universities joined the meeting between Mr. Shawwa and Major General Al Bakri as well as the Director of Public Relations and Communication Department at PMA Mrs. Irene Saadeh and the Director of Research and Monetary Policy Department at PMA Mr. Mohammad Atallah and the Director of Market Conduct Department at PMA Mr. Ali Far’oun. H.E. Mr. Shawwa briefed the meeting about the recent developments in the Palestinian banking sector and the efforts of PMA to safeguard financial stability in Palestine.   

Major General Al Bakri praised PMA’s work to develop the financial sector and for the prosperity and promotion of the Palestinian economy. He briefed the meeting about the recent development in Bethlehem Governorate and the efforts to ensure progress and order in the city of Bethlehem.


His Excellency Mr. Shawwa and the delegate of PMA visited Bethlehem University and signed memorandum of understanding with the Vice Chancellor of Bethlehem University Peter Bray on joint cooperation between PMA and Bethlehem University in service of the academic sector and students. PMA and Bethlehem University would conduct joint activities including awareness-raising lectures in banking and finance. This is among PMA’s efforts to promote financial inclusion. The activities also include organizing practical training programs at PMA for the students at the Business Administration Department and supplying Bethlehem University with PMA’s publications. Mr. Shawwa said the signing of the MoU aimed to develop PMA’s relations with universities and to supply the academic sector and students with banking expertise and information.  

Peter Bray praised PMA’s work to develop the Palestinian banking sector and PMA’s corporate social responsibility in services of the whole community; especially university students. He said it was important to enhance relations between PMA and Bethlehem University.  

H.E. Mr. Shawwa and Major General Al Bakri visited Tkiyet Sitna Maryamin Bethlehem where Major General Al Bakri briefed Mr. Shawwa about the work of Tkiyet Sitna Maryam, which provided meals to needy people in Ramadan through donations from well-to-do residents of Bethlehem and worked through volunteers.  

H.E. Mr. Shawwa praised the work of Tkiyet Sitna Maryamand said that it reflected the spirit of fraternity among Palestinian people and solidarity in Ramada.
