PMA Suspends Scoring of Public Employees by Bounced Cheques System

Taking into account the difficult conditions facing public employees and the banking system’s duty to grant them special consideration given the prevalent circumstances which caused December salary delays, the PMA has issued a circular requiring all banks to scrap fees charged for bounced cheques drawn on public employee accounts. The circular applies for the period starting from January 7, 2015 till the date the December 2014 salaries are disbursed, provided that the total value of bounced cheques for an employee does not exceed that employee’s monthly wage. The PMA has also decided to suspend scoring of public employees by the bounced cheques system starting from January 12, 2015.
