PMA Refutes Reports about Transfer of New Five- and Ten-Shekel Notes into Gaza Strip

The PMA refuted today information published and circulated by some online news outlets purporting that new five- and ten- shekel banknotes have been transferred into the Gaza Strip. At the same time, the PMA affirmed the statement released last Thursday announcing the transfer of coins into the GS in the full range of Israeli currency denominations (half, 1, 2, 5 and 10 Israeli shekel coins); currently in high demand. Further, worn out currency accumulated in banks operating the Gaza Strip has been replaced by 20- and 50- shekel paper currency, so as to meet the needs of citizens in the GS during the holy month of Ramadan. The worn-out currency that was replaced amounted to NIS 50 million. Moreover, as a first step, NIS 215 million of surplus Israeli currency was transferred out of the GS.
