PMA Organizes Roundtable on Measures for Women Banking

As part of preparations to convene Palestine International Banking Conference 2017 on Women Banking


As part of preparations to convene the Palestine International Banking Conference 2017 on Women banking, PMA organized in Ramallah today a roundtable to designate and discuss topics of “Women Banking”; which will be the main theme of the conference.

The discussion session was facilitated by Director of Market Conduct Department at PMA, Mr. Ali Faroun and attended by representatives of several official and private women’s institutions, banks, lending institutions and academic institutions. Also attending were the Director General of Association of Banks in Palestine (ABP), Nabil Abu Diab; PMA Director of Relations and Communications Department, Mrs. Irene Saadeh; Mr. Khalid Qutub from International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Managing Director of the European Palestinian Credit Guarantee Fund (EPCGF), Mr. Hanna Sahhar. 

Mr. Faroun said that the discussion session was organized in preparation for the International Banking Conference to be held in November 20, 2017 to be titled “Women Banking”. Mr. Faroun pointed out that the activity was part of PMA efforts to bridge the financial inclusion gender gap in Palestine, to raise awareness and to highlight the importance of women-owned businesses and enterprises.
The Director of Market Conduct Department added that key conference themes will focus on the current state of financial inclusion for women in Palestine, in particular in terms of various aspects of access to financial services and products, financial literacy and education and the requirements to foster the participation of women in economic development.
During the meeting, the attendees deliberated topics related to “Women Banking” to be proposed for the conference. These topics included the challenges facing women in accessing financial services; the roles of and the approaches employed by both the banking and academic sectors in the economic empowerment of women and the effective role of women in economic development and its macroeconomic impact in general. Moreover, the discussions touched upon economic success stories of women and stressed the importance of presenting such stories to motivate development of women economic competence.
