PMA Governor Visits Nablus Chamber of Commerce

Chairman of the Nablus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Husam Hijjawi received PMA Governor Dr. Jihad Al Wazir at the Chamber’s headquarters. The meeting was attended by Secretary General, Mr. Othman Musleh, Deputy Secretary General, Mr. Tayel Al Hawwari, Treasurer, Mr. Mohammad Sameh Tbeileh, Deputy Treasurer Mr. Samir Qadri and Member of the Board Mr. Bashir Hanani.

During the meeting, the Board was informed about PMA regulations, procedures, arrangements and steps taken to safeguard the Palestinian banking system. Views were exchanged concerning a number of issues pertaining to the Palestinian private sector and its daily dealings with the local banks.

Mr. Husan Hijjawi welcomed Dr. Jihad Al Wazir and thanked him for his visit appreciating PMA efforts towards the organization of the banking sector in Palestine and its impact on the Palestinian situation generally and the economic specifically.

During his representation of the banking situation in Palestine, Dr. Al Wazir acquainted the Chamber’s Board of Directors with the regulations and procedures set by the PMA in order to protect the Palestinian financial situation and reassure the depositors about the safety of their deposits. This was achieved by establishing the Palestinian Deposit Insurance Corporation which protects the rights of 93% of depositors by providing deposit insurance of up to $10,000 ceiling. Al Wazir expressed his happiness at communicating with parties concerned to introduce PMA policies, steps and different scenarios it considers. Dr. Al Wazir affirmed that the Palestinian banking system is strong, sound and robust. He noted that the PMA has brought about the issuance of the National Payments Law and is currently working on the implementation of the National Switch Project. The PMA Governor concluded the meeting by asserting the importance of communication and mutual action in order to best serve the Palestinian economy in collaboration with all parties concerned.
