Palestine Monetary Authority Governor Lectures at Hebron University and Visits City Institutions
The Governor of Palestine Monetary Authority, Dr Jihad Al Wazir, had given a lecture at the Hebron University which was attended by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr Nabil Al Jabari, faculty members and School of Finance and Management undergraduate and postgraduate students. In his lecture, Dr Al Wazir presented an overview of PMA efforts to maintain financial stability in Palestine through the control and supervision of the banking system, lending institutions and money changers. In his speech, Dr Al Wazir pointed to the value of the PMA role in enhancing this stability through the establishment of the Palestine Deposit Insurance Corporation and, likewise, through PMA control and supervisory measures which are compliant with international standards.
Dr. Al Wazir paid a visit to His Excellency the Governor of Hebron, Mr Kamel Hmaid and exchanged views on economic, financial and banking matters in the Hebron Governorate. Al Wazir informed his host about the current successful efforts of PMA to promote financial literacy across the different segments of society for the purpose of enhancing financial safety and stability.
Dr Al Wazir then met with the Mayor of Hebron, Dr Daoud Zatari who briefed him on the various municipal efforts. In turn, Dr Al Wazir stressed the importance of achieving optimal economic and human resources investment in the Hebron Governorate, expressing his admiration of the achievements made so far by the city which is considered an industrial and economic beacon in Palestine.
At the Alumni Association headquarters, Dr Al Wazir met with the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the Palestine Polytechnic University President as well as with faculty members of the College of Administrative Science and Informatics. It was agreed to promote scientific communication and collaboration in the fields of banking and finance and to facilitate the exchange of academic visits and the participation in activities to spread banking knowledge.
The Governor’s visit also included a meeting with the Chairman and Board of Directors of the Businessmen Forum in Hebron. The discussions focused on the efforts made by both sides to develop the investment environment in Hebron. Al Wazir concluded his visit by meeting with the Chairman and members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Hebron. Views were exchanged regarding the means to develop the city’s commercial environment and the role of PMA in fostering such development through the banking system, regulations and control and supervisory systems.
The organization of these meetings comes in line with PMA policy of fostering and enabling communication with national academic, economic, industrial, commercial, financial and banking institutions which consequently promotes social partnership.
