Palestine Monetary Authority and the Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate Sign a Memorandum of Understanding to Develop Economic Media
Ramallah – November 14, 2019 - His Excellency the Governor of Palestine Monetary Authority, Mr. Azzam Shawwa, and the Palestinian Journalists' Syndicates’ Secretary General Mr. Nasser Abu Bakir, signed a memorandum of understanding for the development of economic media, in the presence of a number of journalists and managers of Palestine Monetary Authority.
The memorandum of understanding aims at joint cooperation between the two sides in promoting and developing economic media in the banking financial sector, developing the capabilities of economic journalists by offering training programs for economic journalists, and contributing to increasing the awareness of the Palestinian public about economic, social and financial rights, especially with regard to awareness in the Palestinian banking field, and work to intensify media coverage of the news and activities of Palestine the Monetary Authority and the banking sector.
In his speech during the signing of the memorandum of understanding, His Excellency the Governor stressed the importance of the role of the media in publishing financial and banking data and introducing them to the public, pointing out the need to develop the capabilities and skills of journalists to go beyond their role to transmit such data but to interpret and analyze them, in order to create more knowledge about financial and banking awareness among all segments of society.
His Excellency the Governor praised the Journalists’ Syndicate and its interest in banking and economic affairs, and the development of the capabilities of journalists in this field, and the impact on achieving and supporting the overall development process and maximizing the role of the national economy. Mr. Shawwa thanked the Journalists’ Syndicate for their efforts and high professionalism in conveying information and simplifying it, especially after the establishment of the Network of Economic Journalists.
For his part, Mr. Nasser Abu Bakir pointed out the importance of this memorandum, which comes as part of the efforts of the Network of Economic Journalists to cooperate with national economic institutions in different sectors to organize specialized training programs that contribute to the development of the skills of journalists working in the field of economic journalism. Mr. Nasser Abu Bakir confirmed that the launching of the Economic Journalists Network by Journalists’ Syndicate last April came in the belief in the importance of strengthening specialized journalism in Palestine, pointing out that economic journalism is one of the sectors that must be developed because it concerns the life of every citizen, considering that the economy touches the nerve of our lives.
Mr. Nasser Abu Bakir thanked Palestine Monetary Authority for signing the memorandum of understanding, praising this prestigious national institution, which is making efforts to maintain the integrity of the Palestinian banking system, which is an essential lever for the advancement of the national economy.
