Governor of PMA Meets with Governor of Banque du Liban, Secretary General of Union of Arab Banks and Chairman of Kafalat

Beirut,

H.E. Azzam Shawwa, Governor of the PMA, headed a bank delegation which met in Beirut with Riad Salameh, the Governor of the Banque du Liban, Lebanon's Central Bank. The Governors discussed the growing bilateral relationship between their countries in the field of banking, the means to exchange expertise and the prospects of joint efforts in Arab banking.

Mr. Shawwa reviewed the most important banking indicators and developments in Palestine, highlighting the robustness and soundness of the banking system -in spite of political and economic hardships-, its persistence to develop expertise, competence as well as its products and its eagerness to comply with regulations and keep abreast with the latest developments in international banking systems. 





The Governor of the PMA and the accompanying delegation also met with Mr. Wissam Fattouh, the Secretary General of the Union of Arab Banks. He commended the UAB for its leading role in serving the interests of Arab banking and its contributions to the development of banking environment in the Arab World. 

Governor of PMA and accompanying delegation also met with Dr. Khater Abi Habib, Chairman and General Manager of both the National Institute for the Guarantee of Deposits and Kafalat S.A.L., which is a company that improves the access of the small and medium size enterprises to bank financing. 

The delegation accompanying Governor Shawwa comprised of Mr. Zaher Al-Hmouz, General Manager of Palestine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC); Mr. Wael Lafi, Manager of the Financial Follow-Up Unit (FFU); Mr. Ali Faroun, Director of the PMA’s Consumer Relations and Market Conduct Department and Mr. Mohammad Manasrah, Director of PMA’s Monetary Operations Department. The delegation had separate meetings with Mr. Raed H. Charafeddine, First Vice-Governor at Banque du Liban and Mr. Abd Al-Hafeez Mansour, Special Investigation Commission (SIC) Secretary, in addition to a number of department directors at the Banque du Liban. 

The Palestinian banking delegation visited the Banque du Liban Museum, in order to put to good use the experience of Lebanon’s central bank in that respect, as the PMA plans to start a monetary museum in Palestine.
