Dr. Riyad Abu Shehadah is Appointed Deputy Governor of the Palestine Monetary Authority
Palestine Monetary Authority announces that the President of the State of Palestine and Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization Mahmoud Abbas has issued a decree appointing Dr. Riyad Mustafa Mohammad Abu Shehadah as Deputy Governor of the Palestine Monetary Authority. The appointment is based on recommendation of the Council of Ministers. Dr. Abu Shehadah succeeds Dr. Shehadah Hussein whose appointment as Deputy PMA Governor for 2010-2018 has come to an end.
The Governor of PMA H.E. Mr. Azzam Shawwa has expressed his deep appreciation to the President, the leader and inspirer of the Palestinian people, for the decree and for the President’s support and care for PMA and the banking system.
H.E. the Governor of PMA also expressed gratitude to Dr. Shehadah Hussein for the efforts he made while working for PMA and wished Dr. Riyad Abu Shehadah the best at his work, which shall be a continuation of his successful career and long experience in the banking business.
Dr. Riyad Abu Shehadah joined the Supervision and Inspection Department at PMA in mid 1996. He occupied a number of senior positions within the Department and became Department’s Head in 2006 within the framework of structuring PMA and the Strategic Transformation Plan. Dr. Abu Shehadah was promoted to the position of Governor’s Assistant for Financial Stability early 2015.
Dr. Shehadah’s career, which spans over 23 years, includes many assignments, missions, memberships, and contributions. He represents PMA in a number of boards of directors and committees at home and abroad, including membership in board of directors of Palestinian professional and sovereign institutions. Dr. Abu Shehadah is the Deputy Governor at the Arab Monetary Fund, member of the Steering Committee of the Middle East Regional Technical Assistance Center (METAC) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Beirut, and a member of the Arab Committee on Banking Supervision and the Team of Financial Stability –both affiliated to the Council of Governors of the Arab Central Banks and Monetary Authorities- Arab Monetary Fund.
Dr. Abu Shehadah has PhD. His thesis title is “Risk Management in the Palestinian Banking System: Issues & Implications” from Nagpur University in India (2016). He has Masters degree in Finance, Regulation and Risk Management from the University of Reading in the United Kingdom (1999), he also has Masters degree in Banking & Business Finance from the University of Baroda in India (1995) and Bachelor degree in Commerce from Nagpur University (1992).
Dr. Shehadah has several publications.
