The PMA Governor Meets Senior Officials from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington
Washington – His Excellency Mr. Yahya Shunnar, the PMA Governor, held a series of important meetings with senior officials from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, on the sidelines of his participation in the ongoing Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C.
The meetings included discussions with Mr. Ousmane Dione, vice president for the Middle East and North Africa at The World Bank, and Mr. Jihad Azour, Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department at the International Monetary Fund, with the participation of H.E. Mr. Omar Al-Bitar, the Palestinian Minister of Finance.
During the meetings, discussions were held on ways to strengthen cooperation and partnership between the PMA, the World Bank, and the IMF, with a focus on supporting the Palestinian economy and enabling it to confront the deep challenges resulting from the ongoing Israeli aggression. The Governor emphasized the critical role of both international institutions at this pivotal juncture, particularly in providing the necessary support to overcome this challenging period.
In addition, Governor Shunnar outlined the efforts of the PMA to maintain the stability of the Palestinian banking sector and promote economic development despite the current challenges. He stressed the importance of continuing international partnerships to support these efforts and ensure their long-term sustainability.
In turn, both Mr. Ousmane Dione and Mr. Jihad Azour expressed their appreciation for the efforts of the PMA, reaffirming the commitment of both the World Bank and the IMF to continue their cooperation with the State of Palestine and ensure the provision of the necessary support to address its economic and financial needs.
