PMA Governor Meets Deputy of the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process
Ramallah – His Excellency Mr. Azzam Shawwa, the Governor of the Palestine Monetary Authority, met at his office in Ramallah with Jamie McGoldrick, the Deputy of the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
Mr. Shawwa welcomed Mr. McGoldrick and congratulated him on being appointed as Deputy Special Coordinator for Middle East Peace Process by the Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres and United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory. Mr. Shawwa praised the long experience of Mr. McGoldrick in humanitarian and political affairs and international cooperation and economic development.
Mr. Shawwa briefed Mr. McGoldrick about the efforts of PMA to develop the work of the Palestinian banking sector and safeguarding its soundness and realizing its financial stability. Moreover, Mr. Shawwa briefed Mr. McGoldrick about PMA’s efforts to develop the infrastructure of the banking system, strengthen financial safety network, realizing financial inclusion to ensure that everyone in the society has access to banking services, and developing legislations and regulations with respect to combating money laundering and terrorism financing and the procedures taken by PMA to protect Palestinian people from such crimes through applying international banking standards and keeping abreast of banking developments.
Mr. Shawwa praised the efforts of the United Nations to deliver humanitarian and development aid to the Palestinian people and institutions and the impact of such aid on improving the living conditions of Palestinian people and realizing comprehensive and sustainable economic development.
Mr. McGoldrick expressed appreciation to the important role and efforts of PMA to develop the Palestinian banking and economic sector, which positively influenced people’s lives. Mr. McGoldrick affirmed the continuation of the United Nations support to the Palestinian people in multiple areas.
