PMA Organizes Series of Awareness-Raising Lectures in Number of Universities and Faculties in Gaza Strip
Over the period from 25 November until 7 December, the PMA organized a series of awareness-raising lectures in coordination with the schools of commerce and economics in Al Ummah University, Islamic University of Gaza and the University College of Applied Sciences in Khan Younis. The lectures came as part of a series of lectures launched by the PMA at Palestinian universities and colleges intended to disseminate banking culture, in line with PMA strategy to promote banking and financial knowledge among all segments of the society, including university students.
Governor of the PMA, Mr. Azzam Al-Shawwa, said that the PMA devotes great attention to raising banking awareness of the Palestinian society; in particular university students in order to provide them with applied knowledge, reinforcing the theoretical background they acquire. He added that, to the PMA, cooperation with universities was a priority from various perspectives, especially in relation with scientific research and training.
The lectures incorporated numerous themes, including a lecture titled “Credit System Management and Protection of Borrower Rights” and delivered by Mr. Hussein Zaqout, Customer Service Supervisor. Mr. Zaqout highlighted the goals and duties of the Consumers’ Relations Department, part of the PMA Financial Stability Group. He also touched on the credit systems and their role in preserving the rights of the consumers of banking services as well as the services offered by the Consumer Reception Hall.
A second lecture, presented by Head of Money-Changer Supervision Unit in the Southern Governorates, Mr. Yousef Abu Sabha, was titled “the Reality of Money Changing Business in Gaza Strip Governorates”. Mr. Abu Sabha addressed the role of the PMA in regulating the money-changing profession, pursuant to the Presidential Decree No (13) for 2008 on Money Changer Licensing and Supervision in Palestine. He elaborated on the licensing procedures and the permitted and prohibited businesses for money changing firms. He also elucidated the purpose of the supervision and inspection duties assigned to the PMA in order to maintain financial stability in Palestine. Additionally, an introductory film on the PMA was shown and several publications and printed materials issued by the PMA were distributed to attendees.
The workshop was well-received by students owing to the new content it introduced. Colleagues Zaqout and Abu Sabha took questions and enquiries from the audience.
