PMA Organizes “Exhibition of Life”
Under the auspices of PMA Governor, Dr Jihad Al-Wazir, Deputy Governor, Dr. Shehadeh Hussein, opened a charitable exhibition titled “Exhibition of Life”. The exhibition was organized in cooperation with “Al-Hayat Embroidery Workshop” of the “Al-Hayat Society for the Fight Against Cancer” in the city of Al-Bireh and “Irada Vocational Rehabilitation and Training Project” and “Our Deaf Children Society” in the city of Gaza. The organization of the exhibition was driven by PMA interest in promoting the principle of social responsibility and supporting charitable work that benefits the general public.
Dr. Shehadeh Hussein praised the concept of the exhibition and the role the exhibition assumes in promoting social responsibility, extending his gratitude to the participating societies which play an important social role.
The two venues in Ramallah and Gaza were visited by PMA employees who learnt about the hand-made goods and embroidery displayed and expressed their satisfaction with the standard of quality and creativity that was achieved in producing the items on display. The employees had the opportunity of direct purchase of these products to support and contribute to these charitable societies, as the proceeds from the exhibitions will go in full to the societies participating in the exhibition.
It is worth mentioning that all goods and embroidery artworks on display were handmade by women suffering from cancer, their family members, individuals suffering injury following the Gaza wars or deaf children. Such products constitute a source of income to the participant and their families.
The idea of founding the “Al-Hayat Society for the Fight against Cancer” goes back to the year 2010, as a result of the escalating incidence of cancer within the Palestinian society. This necessitated that non-governmental and governmental parties join forces in combating the disease, whether in terms of providing necessary medication or offering encouragement and support to the patients and their families and alleviating their sufferings.
As for “Our Deaf Children”, the society was established in 1992 in the city of Gaza with the aim at helping deaf and hard-of-hearing children and adults to attain their fair opportunity in education and vocational rehabilitation and training. The society is considered a key authority and major source of resources in relation to deafness for all centers, institutions, clinics and hospitals operating in the Gaza Strip. The society employs 160 people. Deaf employees constituted 45 percent of total employees.
“Irada Vocational Rehabilitation and Training Project” was established in 2012 in the city of Gaza with the objective of providing vocational rehabilitation and training services to people with disabilities, in particular those injured during the wars waged by Israel against the Gaza Strip. The society helps qualify skilled workers to meet the needs of the labor market and increase trainee employability, in order to achieve social and economic integration and promote equal opportunities of work.
It is noteworthy that the PMA has sought to acquaint its employees with the developments and innovations in the Palestinian society, through organizing exhibitions and local activities including activities featuring Palestinian folklore, visual art, handicraft and projects and achievements of people with special needs.
