PMA Governor meets delegation headed by Deputy Foreign Minister of South Africa for Middle East Affairs

His Excellency Mr. Azzam Shawwa, the Governor of the Palestine Monetary Authority, met at PMA’s new headquarters in Ramallah with Deputy Foreign Minister of South Africa for Middle East Affairs Mr. Mohamed Dangoor and the Ambassador of South Africa in Palestine Mr. Ashraf Suleiman and the accompanying delegation. 
The meeting discussed ways of strengthening bilateral relations between the State of Palestine and South Africa and enhancing relations between PMA and the Central Bank of South Africa.

Mr. Shawwa welcomed the delegation and briefed them on the developments and achievements of PMA in relation to developing the Palestinian banking sector and safeguarding its strength and stability and keeping up with recent global banking developments. He also briefed the delegation of the ratification of the Anti-Money Laundering Law 2015. 

Mr. Shawwa stated that the new PMA headquarters, which was built in accordance with the international specifications and standards of central banks, was one of the steps taken by PMA to become a central bank once the President approves the Law of the Central Bank of Palestine, which would happen soon.

Mr. Shawwa praised the bilateral relations between the State of Palestine and South Africa and the effective role South Africa played in supporting the Palestinian people.

Mr. Dangoor congratulated PMA Governor on the new PMA headquarters and said he was pleased with the level of development and progress of the Palestinian banking system. 

Mr. Dangoor extended an invitation to Mr. Shawwa to visit South Africa to discuss ways of boosting strategic relations between South Africa and Palestine and exchange expertise and experiences in banking and development of SMEs as well as in the area of anti-money laundering and combating terrorism financing. 

The Ambassador of South Africa Mr. Ashraf Suleiman said that South Africa was ready to exchange expertise and enhance the capacities of Palestinian institutions and support the local economy.
