The Child and Youth Banking Week 2019 Closes:

Palestine Monetary Authority and partners concluded the activities of the Child and Youth Banking Week 2019, which went on throughout last week. The Child and Youth Banking Week 2019 had been organized by Palestine Monetary Authority in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Association of Banks in Palestine, and the Education Program at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). More than 98,000 students from schools across the West Bank and Gaza Strip joined the activities of the Child and Youth Banking Week 2019, including 1,400 students who, over two days, came to the virtual bank branch exhibitions in Al-Qal’a Hall in Nablus and the Lighthouse Hall in Gaza City. The purpose of the virtual bank branch was to introduce students to nature and function of banks and the activities and services banks delivered to client. This year, unlike previous years, students who were trained at bank branches and lending institutions before the launching of the Child and Youth Banking Week 2019, explained to the visiting students the banking services, which the virtual bank branch delivered.
Visits by bank employees were organized to approximately 1,754 schools in the West Bank and Gaza Strip to educate students and to hand in information bulletins. Additionally, students’ visits were organized to approximately 351 bank branches and offices and 107 branches of lending institutions to be introduced to their departments and work mechanism.

His Excellency Mr. Azzam Shawwa, the Governor of Palestine Monetary Authority, expressed joy over the success and distinctiveness of the activities of the Child and Youth Banking Week this year and the number of students joining the activities. Mr. Shawwa drew attention to the important impact the activities left including increasing financial and banking awareness and culture in the society especially among children and youths and ensuring financial inclusion in general.
Mr. Shawwa thanked all partners including educational, banking, economic, and local establishments for their efforts to make the Child and Youth Banking Week 2019 successful.
Palestine Monterey Authority has organized the Child and Youth Banking Week annually since 2011. The organization of this event in Palestine usually coincides with the activities of the Global Money Week, which takes place every year on March 15 and aims to enhance the financial and banking culture in the society especially among children and youth and prepares them to wisely plan their financial future. Palestine Monterey Authority received the Global Money Week Award in 2013 and 2018 for organizing the best financial and banking awareness-raising activity (Child and Youth Banking Week) in the Middle East.
