Headed by His Excellency the Governor, Palestine Monetary Authority’s Delegation starts tomorrow their visit to the United States of America

A delegation of Palestine Monetary Authority, headed by his Excellency Mr. Azzam Shawwa, Governor of Palestine Monetary Authority, will start a visit to the United States of America on Monday, January 28, 2019 to hold important meetings with American officials and members of the Congress in Washington D.C. and New York City to brief them on the safety and soundness of the Palestinian banking system. The delegates include Dr. Taalib Sarie, Member of the Board of Directors of Palestine Monetary Authority; Mr. Issa Kassis, Governor Advisor for Strategic Planning and International affairs, Mr. Wael Lafi, the Financial Follow-Up Unit Director, Mr. Murad Sawafta, Director of Legal Office, Palestine Monetary Authority; and Rula Malouf, the Head of Governor’s Office.
The delegates will brief Congressmen and corresponding banks about the developments of the Palestinian banking sector and the National Strategy of Financial Inclusion and its impact on domestic economy. The briefing will also cover the compliance of the banks that operate in Palestine with the international standards of combating money laundering and terrorism financing, the relationships between Palestine Monetary Authority and central banks and corresponding banks worldwide, the steps Palestine Monetary Authority has taken to digitalize the Palestinian financial and banking sector, Palestine Monetary Authority’s plan of financial technology, and preparation for national risk assessment 2020.
The purpose of such visits by delegates from Palestine Monetary Authority is to introduce the Palestinian banking sector, strengthen bilateral relations, and to brief international organizations and decision-makers and public opinion about the efforts of the State of Palestine to implement the best international practices and standards in banking.
