H.E. Governor of PMA Visits city of Jericho Governorate, the Chamber of Commerce and Municipality and Meets Representatives of Financial and Banking Sector
H.E. Governor of the PMA, Mr. Azzam Shawwa, conducted an extended tour of the Governorate of Jericho. The visit commenced with a meeting with Chairman of the Jericho Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Tayseer Al-Hmaidi. The Chamber’s board members and its General Manager were in attendance. Discussions focused on the means of cooperation with the PMA in order to provide services and support for the merchants and possible ways to attract and encourage investment.
H.E. the Governor reviewed efforts made by the PMA and the banking system to achieve monetary stability and to contribute to financial stability in order to foster and develop the national economy, in spite of the difficult political and economic conditions. He made mention of the advanced banking systems that have been introduced by the PMA so far, saying that more systems were to be launched in the current year.
At the Chamber of Commerce headquarters, H.E. Governor Shawwa met with representatives of currency exchange firms, bank branch managers and certain insurance companies to listen to their suggestions and enquiries. As a result, the Governor got to better know the needs of currency exchange firms operating in the governorate. Discussions also covered the regulation of their business in accordance to effective laws. H.E. the Governor commended the role played by these firms in supporting the national economy.
Later, H.E. Governor Shawwa met with H.E Governor of the Governorate of Jericho and the Jordan Valley. Mr. Majed Al-Fitiani commended the PMA for its role and keen interest in the general conditions of Palestinian governorates and economic conditions of citizens. He also valued highly PMA’s role in stimulating economic activity through the support offered by banks to the various investment projects, which eventually give rise to new job opportunities.
H.E. Governor Shawwa praised the economic sectors in the Governorate of Jericho and the Jordan Valley for their activity and vitality, emphasizing their strategic significance, from an economic perspective in particular, owing to the substantial potentials in tourism, trade, agriculture, industry and other areas. He also commended the various sectors’ role in advancing national development and laying down the foundations of the independent State of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital.
H.E. the Governor visited the Jericho Municipality and met with Mayor Mohammad Jalaytah. Discussions focused on the means for improvement of economic conditions and development of the various economic sectors in the Governorate of Jericho and the Jordan Valley, as well as the beneficial role of the public-private partnerships in serving the local community and boosting development, especially in view of the current political situation.
H.E. the Governor met with the Director General of Borders and Crossings, Mr. Nazmi Muhanna, and congratulated him on receiving the Presidential Rank Award of Governor, in appreciation of the Presidency for his role and endeavors to serve all segments of the Palestinian society.
