Governor of PMA Meets with Ambassador of Tunisia to Palestine

In his office in Ramallah, PMA Governor Azzam Shawwa received Tunisian Ambassador to Palestine Habib Ben Farah. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Riyad Abu Shehadeh, Assistant to the Governor for Financial Stability Affairs.

Governor of PMA briefed the Ambassador of Tunisia on latest developments in the Palestinian banking sector and the efforts made by the PMA to sustain its robustness and stability through the upgrade of various legislative, regulatory and supervisory aspects relating to the banking system. He added that these efforts are made possible through keeping abreast with the most recent international banking developments and promoting Palestine’s banking relations with the different international, regional and Arabic parties. These efforts, he added, were part of PMA’s pursuit to transform into a central bank in the near future, once the Palestine Central Bank Law receives presidential endorsement. Moreover, Governor Shawwa praised the bilateral relations of Palestine and Tunisia and the effective role played by Tunisia in support of the Palestinian people and its plight to build its state, institutions and national economy.

From his side, the Ambassador of Tunisia praised the evident development of the Palestinian banking sector, expressing his appreciation for PMA’s endeavors. He emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in all areas, particularly in the area of banking in order to ensure the development of the financial and economic environment in Palestine.
