Al Wazir Receives CEO of Child and Youth Finance International

Ramallah, 13 July 2015

In his office in Ramallah, the Governor of the PMA, Dr Jihad Al Wazir, received today CEO of Child and Youth Finance International Ms. Jeroo Billimoria. Dr Al Wazir welcomed Ms. Billimoria, expressing PMA’s appreciation for her efforts to promote financial awareness and found and support the Annual Child and Youth Banking Week. The Governor gave a detailed presentation on the measures and steps adopted by the PMA to build and enhance child and youth capacities and familiarize members of both groups to banking at an early age. Children and young people are introduced to the concept of banks, bank operations, the methods of saving, preparing for the future and financial terminology during the activities of the Child and Youth Banking Week in Palestine. The Week has been annually organized by the PMA since 2012 with numerous events taking place over the course of a whole week. One such event features the dedication of one working hour in bank branches to receive visiting students from schools, in particular to eighth graders. The students are introduced to the bank, its departments and divisions and the banking and financial services offered. And, a number of bank employees conduct field visits to schools to explain banking operations and services.

In turn, Ms. Billimoria thanked Dr Al Wazir for the warm reception and commended the achievements of the PMA, in particular in the area of financial and banking awareness. These achievements, she added, had culminated in the PMA receiving the award for the best financial awareness program in the Middle East in the year 2013 in appreciation for its outstanding efforts and significant role in promoting financial inclusion and banking awareness in Palestine.

Ms. Billimoria pointed out that she was glad to visit Palestine and meet with H.E. the Governor of the PMA and that the purpose of her visit was to communicate and study the prospects of future cooperation between the PMA and Child and Youth Finance International in the area of building child and youth financial capacity.
