The Governor of Palestine Monetary Authority Participates in the Opening of the First Banking on Values Conference in Palestine
His Excellency the Governor of Palestine Monetary Authority, Mr. Azzam Shawwa, participated in Ramallah in the opening of the First Banking on Values Conference in Palestine, organized by Bank of Palestine in collaboration with the Global Alliance for Banking on Values, in the presence of Bank of Palestine Group Chairman Hashim Shawwa and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Global Alliance for Banking on Values Mr. Peter Bloom, the Representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Palestine, Mr. Kees van Baar, and a number of presidents and representatives of banking and financial institutions.
During his speech at the opening of the conference, Mr. Shawwa stressed the interest of Palestine Monetary Authority and the Palestinian banking system in adhering to values including social responsibility by sponsoring and supporting sustainable development projects in health, education, women, youth, sports and people with special needs, the environment, the fight against poverty, etc., as well as efforts to create an environment conducive to the empowerment of women in banking and finance, and to promote financial and banking education campaigns.
Mr. Shawwa pointed out that the efforts of the banking sector, led by Palestine Monetary Authority in the field of financial inclusion, have been praised by international institutions, and that these efforts will contribute to the delivery of banking service to marginalized groups and remote areas. Mr. Shawwa explained that Palestine Monetary Authority had instructed banks to invest in economic projects that contribute to economic growth and aimed at stimulating banks and enhancing their role in sustainable economic development by investing in Palestinian start-ups and projects.
His Excellency the Governor thanked the Global Alliance for Banking on Values, represented by Mr. Peter Bloom, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and the Alliance’s members, for their effective efforts to achieve sustainable economic and social development, and the Bank of Palestine, represented by Mr. Hashim Shawwa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bank, for all of their creative initiatives and programs and keeping up with the latest global developments in banking.
