PMA Hosts a Student Delegation from the University of Harvard

Ramallah, 19/03/2013, PMA hosted forty-five graduate students from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and the Harvard Business School (The 2013 Palestine Trek) which was organized by Harvard Alumni Association. The goal of the trek is to expose Harvard Kennedy School students to the Palestinian cause and the circumstances the Palestinians live under the Israeli occupation.

Dr. Jihad Al Wazir- PMA Governor, welcomed the delegation, and gave them a presentation on the economic conditions, also gave an explanation of the role of the Monetary Authority to oversee the financial stability and development of the banking industry in Palestine, reviewing different scenarios and obstacles that hinder the development of the Palestinian economy. Dr. Al Wazir also mentioned the most important achievements of the PMA in the last years, and issuing a sit of acts, regulations, and legislations that aim to protect Palestine and its citizens, such as obtaining the membership in International Association of Deposit Insurance IADI, developing the National Payment System, and launching the IBAN that are in line with the best international practices.

This visit took place for introducing the Palestinian cause to the future international leaders, noting that the students come from various cultures and citizens. It is also worth mentioning, that PMA has provided an annual grant for the master's program MPA / ID in a joint venture with the Harvard University of $ 75 thousand dollars, and currently a Palestinian student is completing his postgraduate studies at the university.
