Palestine Monetary Authority Organizes a Meeting between the Office of the Representative of the European Union and the Managers of Banks and Lending Institutions in Gaza

Gaza, September 30, 2021- Palestine Monetary Authority organized a meeting today between the Office of the Representative of the European Union in Palestine and the managers and officials of banks and lending institutions in Gaza Strip during which the European Union's efforts for the economic recovery in Gaza were presented.

The European delegation included Head of the Economic Development Section, Water and Energy at the Office of the Representative of the European Union in Palestine, Mr. Charles RAUDOT DE CHATENAY, Economic Development and Trade Officer Mr. Orest Tokac,and from the Private Sector Section, Mr. Giacomo Miserocchi, and Head of the European Union Office in Gaza. Dr. Ra’fat Al-Araj, Representative of Palestine Monetary Authority and Regional Supervisor of Control and Inspection at Palestine Monetary Authority in Gaza Strip, welcomed the delegation of the European Union and the attendees on behalf of Dr. Feras Milhem, the Governor of Palestine Monetary Authority. Dr. Al-Araj stressed the importance of the meeting, which informed people about the positive role played by the European Union Office in Gaza Strip in mitigating the effects of economic crises and difficult living conditions, and to convey the views of representatives of an important sector regarding the needs of Gaza Strip.

Mr. Charles addressed the current efforts of the European Union to assist in the post-war economic recovery and reviewed the details of the programs, projects and initiatives being implemented by the European Union in Palestine in general and in Gaza Strip in particular and those still underway to be arranged for implementation in the near future. The focus was on projects, funds and initiatives in cooperation and partnership with Palestine Monetary Authority, banks and specialized lending institutions, to grant funding and support microenterprises as well as small and medium enterprises, in addition to presenting other EU projects in infrastructure, energy, export promotion and other sectors.

Many suggestions and observations related to the efforts and initiatives of the European Union to contribute to economic recovery plans were also discussed.
